Michelle has worked as a Psychologist in pain management since 2003. She has experience working with adults and children who have a range of chronic pain and health conditions, as well as experience helping patients manage acute pain resulting from traumatic injury, and pelvic pain associated with pelvic mesh. She has assisted many patients to cope with medication reductions, including opioids, and is able to work closely with treating medical practitioners to provide the necessary support. Michelle is also experienced in providing pain education, managing depression and anxiety associated with adjustment to chronic conditions, and grief and loss. She is endorsed in the areas of Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology, and regularly lectures and provides training to postgraduate university students and health professionals.
She provides a warm, engaging and supportive approach to therapy and values working collaboratively with patients to achieve their goals. Michelle’s interests include pain management and coping with chronic illness, and she has a special interest in pelvic pain conditions for both women and men, including issues associated with the use of pelvic mesh. She is passionate about helping people understand pain and find ways to achieve their goals, irrespective of their health concerns. Michelle uses a range of psychological approaches including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and hypnosis. With hypnosis, Michelle focusses predominantly on issues associated with pain, and uses a hypnotic cognitive therapy approach.
